The NLT "Bible Translation Team" The following list is copied from an edition of the NLT published in 1996, in which it appears under the heading "New Living Translation Bible Translation Team." It is to be noted that the scholars listed here are described as "reviewers" rather than "translators." I have added some notes to the list, in square brackets. What we have in the NLT is an interpretation arbitrarily favored by Taylor, and at the very least the NLT revisers should have added a footnote advising the reader of the interpretation favored by most scholars

In Defense of Joseph
Because "the Spirit of the Lord doth not dwell in unholy temples" (Book of Mormon, Helaman 2:59), Joseph could not have been evil and received these communications from God. Some may say that he lied about a minor point which doesn't affect the the major thrust of his testimony that Joseph was a polygamist and brought forth the polygamy revelation which Emma destroyed
Like the rest of his family, he was deeply religious, and when the time came for him to be baptized, Joseph had to decide which of the many Christian denominations to join. I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet that he was called of God to restore truths lost to the gospel of Jesus Christ, I see Gods guiding hand in the things that he did and hear the message of Christ in the things he taught
