How many lives will it cost to invade (and how many of them will be on our side) vs how many lives will it cost if we drop the bombs? There are a few kneejerk patriotic comments here, but equally, there are plenty which demonstrate a failure to understand that, however abominable the decision to drop the bombs, the alternative was considered to be more abominable
