Once done, I've not been able to find a way to re-open it! Fortunately closing the Search window, and then selecting Start, Search, and then For Files or Folders re-opens the Search window with the companion pane restored. Apparently if this file is missing, corrupt, or not properly registered with the operating system several dialogs are affected including Search Companion, User Accounts, Windows Update, Help and Support, and System Restore

The only way I could get it to work was by using GitGui to create the key pairs (without a password) and then copy and pasting the public key via the control panel, ssh, manage keys. Here's an example of a Git config for bitbucket that will use the correct username, and a key other than the default key (in case you maintain one key for SSH connections, and another for git accounts)
