He told me that the Doc Martens sole was patented, but that the company sold rights to manufacture the shoe uppers to different manufacturers, and so this resulted in a wide variety of different shoe qualities. In fact, the only problem I've ever had with Docs was with a patent pair I bought in the 90s, which cracked along the back of the heel, so I resolved never to buy patent docs again

they used to make Docs in the UK Correct, you can still purchase ones that are made in England exactly as the original ones were produced, at a premium price. The "laminated" leather is already cracked after wearing them for about 3 weeks ; before that I had a pair of DM Industrial, they lasted about 3 years until the leather got so work it was torn apart; and long before that the surface was showing damage marks though I had always been careful..

Getting Doc Martens re-soled

The shoe repair guy in town that I've used in the past says he can't do it and the other two places I've tried says they can put new soles on-but not with the original type of sole. He was still resoling shoes when he was 90! These days, most people wear shoes (and that includes me) that cost as much to resole as a new pair of shoes would cost

Value quality? Stay away from Doc Martens! - Survivalist Forum

I have a pair of trickers brogue boots bought second hand (looked new) for 35 quid, they are over 400 new! will last a life time and like wearing slippers. Bottom line - Get good real leather shoes (or boots) that are well built, that fit your feet, and that you have put more than just a few couple dozen miles on - especially if you're gonna rely on them for a SHTF survival - and take exceptional care of them

LeBlanc from Overall: Rated:5 stars! Comfort: Rated:5 stars! Style: Rated:5 stars! I have been buying Doc Martens for several years for work and have always been pleased. I was worried the shoe was half a size larger but once I started walking around I hardly noticed and am kind of glad I had room to move around since these are leather shoes (going barefoot would rub!)
