How do I tell if my Memory is ECC or Non-ECC? - Super User
I think error correction will happen by default with ECC RAM installed, but if your kernel is monitoring the memory controller to track the memory error rate, that would be another confirmation that you have ECC RAM. More information on how error correcting code works can be found in this simple post where I showed how you could use extra bits to detect and correct errors
64 bit - How do I apt-get a 32-bit package on a 64-bit installation? - Ask Ubuntu
You can even easily install complete applications with all their dependencies now! Simply add :i386 to the name of the package you would like to install
It is worded in terms of installing a 32-bit Ubuntu inside a 64-bit Ubuntu, but should apply with minor modifications to other situations, such as installing Debian unstable inside Debian stable or vice versa. To avoid this (which could disrupt the services running outside the chroot, in particular because network ports are shared), establish a policy of not running services in the chroot
How do I tell whether my IE is 64-bit? (For that matter, Java too?) - Stack Overflow
(I'm afraid to ask on the offical Java forums, because they're such a-holes.) Also, How do I issue a command to the OS to tell whether this IE is 64-bit? Help!About doesn't say on that. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE have separate addons lists (because 32-bit addons cannot be loaded in 64-bit IE, and vice-versa), so you should make sure that Java appears on both lists
Change settings for Remote Desktop, which you can use to connect to a remote computer, and Remote Assistance, which you can use to invite someone to connect to your computer to help troubleshoot a problem
Maybe also because many proprietary applications (like flash, amazon software etc) are readily available for 32-bit but not for 64-bit and it is difficult to get them installed or do not work properly
cpu architecture - How do I check if I have a 32-bit or a 64-bit OS? - Ask Ubuntu
If that turns up any results, you are on a 64-bit install (the results are compatibility libraries for running 32-bit applications on a 64-bit install). Type Details, and select "Details" icon Read "OS type" field 64 bit OS will read "64-bit" Alternative to get the above screen: click System Menu (gear at top right corner) click "About this Computer" I know the terminal responses are good but I guess this is the GUI answer
