How to install SQL Server 2005 Express in Windows 8 - Stack Overflow

  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13520551/how-to-install-sql-server-2005-express-in-windows-8
We have a few new servers we're looking to roll out with Windows 2012 but we didn't feel the need to upgrade SQL Server since the 2005 version has all the functionality we need and the cost to license SQL 2012 on these boxes would have been a 5-figure sum. Stop SQL Service and restore orignal versions of SQLServr.exe and SQLOS.dll (or else SP4 doesn't think it is needed in the next step) Install SQL Server 2005 SP4 Install SQL Server 2005 SP4 Cumulative Hotfix 5069 (Windows Update wasn't offering this for some reason so I had to download and install manually) If you want the latest documentation, install the latest version of SQL Server 2005 Books Online

There are a few articles out there on how to enable compatibility mode on Vista but I had a tough time finding the exact procedures on Windows Server 2008 so I figured I would post them here in case anybody else is having trouble. Reporting Services is a prerequisite for TFS and when running through the installation of SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2008, you may notice the option to install Reporting Services is grayed out

Why is SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Intellisense not working? - Stack Overflow

  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/552458/why-is-sql-server-2008-management-studio-intellisense-not-working
In this thread, explaining that in order to restore Intellisense, you must take the necessary databases offline, then restart the server instance, and finally refresh the Intellisense cache. The server I'm using is local and is 2008, the database is set to 2008 compatibility, Intellisense is on in every menu I can find, and yet no member list will pop up even with a CTRL-J

I had to uninstall and reinstall SQL Server without the Client tools and then the setup file from the client tools would install SQL Server Management Studio. This was on an install of Sql2005 Standard Edition that mysteriously didn't have client tools available whilst it was definitely checked as a component to install

Thanks.seems a bit scary what you did ....Your statement didn't work because you didn't use "regular" single quotes. That also happens when you copy quoted text from e.g. If that is so, am I hopeless? Can you go through all the questions I asked in my initial post here and answer them? Without all of that info, no way to tell how bad things are.To be blunt, most likely outcome here is either recovery with some data loss or no recovery at all

Please reinstall application" I tried repairing SSMS, uninstalling, reinstalling and even tried SSMS 2014, yet no matter what I do when I go to SSMS I still get that same error. I am wondering if there is some component that is missing or was removed when I removed Visual Studio Pro? I re-installed Visual Studio 2013 express, and it works, but SSMS still won't work

CAUSE What exactly is this User profile? It is a cornucopia of files created when a user logs on to a system (A fancy name for the collection of NTuser.dat, My Documents, Favourites, Cookies and History.... If there is no internet connection or there is a problem contacting the certificate revocation list server then this will significantly delay SSMS start-up
